1 Corinthians 3;10-15
P10 - Building Wisely

In this message from 1 Corinthians 3:10–15, we are reminded that every believer is building a life that will one day be examined by Christ. Paul teaches that Jesus Christ is the only true foundation, and that the quality of our service, motives, obedience, and faithfulness matters before God.

This sermon challenges Christians to build wisely: with care, on Christ, with lasting spiritual quality, and with eternity in view. Rather than living for what is temporary, believers are called to serve faithfully, reject worldliness, and seek the approval of the Savior who will reward what endures.

If you do not yet know Jesus Christ, this passage points to the only sure foundation for forgiveness, eternal life, and a life that will stand: the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Main Idea: Every believer must build carefully on the foundation of Jesus Christ because the quality of our work will one day be tested by Him.

  1. Wisdom instructs the worker to build with care. Paul reminds the Corinthians that ministry is a work of grace, not a platform for human pride. Every believer is responsible to serve with spiritual seriousness, knowing that God sees our motives, methods, and faithfulness.
  2. Wisdom instructs the worker to build with Christ. Jesus Christ is the only true foundation for the church and for the Christian life. No ministry, marriage, plan, or personal pursuit can endure if Christ is displaced from the center.
  3. Wisdom instructs the worker to build with quality. Paul contrasts lasting materials with temporary ones to show that the Lord will examine the quality of each believer’s work. We must reject worldliness and choose obedience, worship, service, and sacrifice that honor Christ.
  4. Wisdom instructs the worker to build for reward. The judgment seat of Christ will reveal what endures. Faithful believers will receive reward, while careless believers will suffer loss, though still saved. Therefore, we should live for what lasts and seek the Savior’s approval.

Application: Build your life with eternity in view. Serve with care, keep Christ at the center, choose what honors Him, and live in anticipation of hearing, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
